Are you visiting a swimming pool in The Hague for the first time? Then you need a swimming pass.

Recreational swimming is for people of all ages. Enjoy taking a dip in the pool with family and friends. Jump off the highest diving board, glide down the water slide or relax at the side of the pool while the children splash around in the water.

Children who do not have a swimming certificate are required to wear inflatable armbands or a life jacket. They may only go in the pool if they are accompanied by somebody who is 18 years or older and can swim well. A maximum of 2 children are permitted per adult. Lap swimming is one of the most complete workouts for your body. Working against the resistance of the water trains your muscles and stamina. And the buoyancy of water reduces the impact on your joints. Lap swimming is for everybody who has a swimming certificate: for exercise and relaxation.

Swimming is fun for the whole family. Families can go swimming during recreational swimming and family swimming. Family swimming is for parents and grandparents with children.

During the time slots for family swimming, children under the age of 18 may enter the pool only if they are accompanied by an adult who will also be swimming. If your child does not have a swimming certificate, inflatable armbands are required.

Aqua jogging is a tough resistance workout where you simulate running in deep water without touching the bottom. The foam rubber strap around your waist keeps you afloat. The friction of the water means you have to push your legs harder than during your regular runs. You build up muscle strength without impacting your joints.

Do you like exercising to music? Water aerobics is a fitness training to music in half shallow water. You strengthen your muscles with the friction of the water and improve your condition. The advantage is that there is less chance of injury in the water. The lessons consist of a warming up, fitness and muscle strengthening exercises and a cooling down.

Do you enjoy variation and do you like to do a different sport each lesson? Then join aquavaria. A varied programme is offered and every lesson is different.

Aquavaria combines various aqua sports, such as water aerobics, aqua jogging, aqua steps and fitness swimming. It uses different equipment during a varied programme. You work on your condition, improve your coordination and develop more strength. Aquavaria is for everyone aged 18 and older and is given in deep water.

Are you 50 or older? Then Fifty fit could be something for you. During this lesson you work on your coordination, do muscle strengthening exercises and you build up your condition. The lessons are given in shallow water to hit songs from the 60s and 70s. You decide on your own tempo. The lessons last 30 minutes. After the lesson there is time to drink a cup of coffee or tea.

If there is space, you can try out a lesson for free. You can then join the class. You then only pay for the remaining lessons in this period.

During Teddy Bear swimming you swim together with your child while an experienced swimming instructor teaches you fun and educational exercises. This way your child gets used to the water in a playful way. The lessons are all about playing, discovering and building confidence. So that your child is not afraid of the water.

During pregnancy swimming you can move freely and in a relaxed way. The weightlessness in the water can reduce some of the pressure on your body from the extra weight during pregnancy. At the same time you will work on your condition and muscles under the supervision of an experienced instructor. Swimming is a sport you can do throughout your entire pregnancy.

Child underwater without armbands

A good swimming ability is important in a city by the sea. This is why in addition to swimming lessons, there are special times when you can practice swimming with your child without inflatable armbands. At these times you can use the equipment which is also used during swimming lessons and a swimming instructor will be available to give you tips.

Good to know

  • Children must always be accompanied by somebody who is 18 years or older and can swim well.
  • A maximum of 2 children without a swimming certificate are allowed per adult.
  • Children are allowed chest deep in the water without inflatable armbands. If you want to practice swimming in deeper water, always discuss this first with a swimming instructor.
  • Always follow the instructions of the staff in the swimming pool. They are there for your safety.

Do you already have a swimming pass?

If you are 14 years or older, you will get a free personal swimming pass the first time you visit a swimming pool. To get the swimming pass you will need to show a valid ID at the cash desk of the swimming pool. The pass is valid in all of The Hague’s swimming pools. Take it with you every time you go swimming.
