How does paid parking work

Are you parking your vehicle in a paid parking zone in The Hague? Then you can pay at any of the city’s parking meters using your mobile phone, debit card or credit card. Different rules apply to motorcycles.

Which verhicles to pay for

Paid parking applies to:

  • cars
  • (company) buses
  • microcars

You can park the following vehicles free of charge in a paid parking zone:

  • motorcycles (in car parks only)
  • disabled vehicles

Parking costs

The cost of paid parking is displayed on all parking meters.

Paid parking times

The times for paid parking are displayed on all parking meters.

  • In the city centre and Scheveningen, you also pay at night.
  • Paid parking applies everywhere on public holidays. See below.

Paid parking in The Hague applies on the following public holidays in 2025:

  • New Year’s Day (1 January)
  • Good Friday (18 April)
  • Easter Sunday and Easter Monday (20 and 21 April)
  • King’s Day (26 April)
  • Liberation Day (5 May)
  • Ascension Day (29 May)
  • Whit Sunday and Whit Monday (8 and 9 June)
  • Christmas Day and Boxing Day (25 and 26 December)

How to pay

Do you want to pay by debit card or credit card? Find out how:

  1. Enter your licence plate number on the parking meter.
  2. Specify how long you want to park.
  3. Pay using your debit or credit card. There is no need to enter a PIN code. You can pay a maximum of € 50 at a time.

Once you have paid, you can print a receipt. This will tell you the time until which you can park. It is not necessary to place a ticket behind the windscreen.

Privacy

The municipality only uses your licence plate information to check whether you have paid for parking. Read more in the Begin link: privacy declaration for automated parking control, end link.
