What is car sharing?
A car sharing scheme means you share a car with other people. You can do this in different ways:
- You borrow a car from friends, family or neighbours.
- You hire a car from a car sharing company.
- You share (lease) cars with other people in a cooperative or group.
Car sharing is one of the most effective forms of smart mobility. It frees up space on the road, leads to fewer cars on the street and Begin external link: improves the living environment of city residents(External link), end external link.. The municipality is supporting car sharing in the city.

- You have a reserved parking space.
- Your actions result in fewer cars on the street.
- You decide together which (electric) cars you lease or use.
- You can apply for a subsidy for setting up a cooperative.
Hiring from a car sharing company
You hire a car from a provider through a car sharing company. You pay a commercial rate for this.
- You find a car in a reserved parking space or within a certain area. Or throughout the entire city (depending on the provider).
- Your actions result in fewer cars on the street.
- You choose your own provider in your neighbourhood.
