Pierplein: dance your way over the street painting

The square on the Scheveningen Pier has gotten a new summer attraction. Two artists painted the 1st strokes of a colourful street artwork on 22 July. The painting measures 6 by 12 metres and features dancing and games.

Designers Sarah Kos and Reinier Hamel made the design and also painted the artwork. It took them 2 days. The street painting encourages visitors to dance. By following the footsteps and the flip-flops on the painting.

Pierplein full of colour

The Ferris wheel and the Kurhaus in Scheveningen are eye-catchers. The municipality commissioned the street painting to brighten up the gray stones in front of the Pierplein. The painting in pink, blue and yellow makes the Pierplein more attractive. The fences on the construction site on the Middenboulevard have the same colours. And in the spring the municipality’s Infopunt (information centre) also got a makeover.

The street painting will stay in place until the end of 2024. The concrete stones will then be removed and the square will get new paving stones.

Development plans

The street painting is part of the development plans for the coast (Actieplan Kust). The development plans aims to keep the beach resorts of Scheveningen and Kijkduin accessible, safe, liveable and welcoming.
