Paleistuin visitors: follow the rules

The Paleistuin is a lovely, quiet spot in the busy downtown area. To make sure that everyone can enjoy these gardens, there are a few rules. So that the park can remain attractive and safe.

The Paleistuin is located behind Noordeinde Palace. When the weather is nice, many people go there to walk, jog or play with their children.

What is and is not allowed

  • You are allowed to do sports as long as it does not bother other visitors.
  • Keep the park clean. Do not leave any rubbish behind and do not throw chewing gum on the ground.
  • Show consideration for other people. Respect each other and do not start an argument or cause excessive noise.
  • Dogs must be kept on a leash. Clean up any dog poop.
  • Alcohol and drugs are prohibited. You may also not use them.
  • Do not throw cigarette butts or glass on the ground.
  • Bicycles and motorbikes are not allowed in the park.
  • Horses are not allowed, apart from the horses of the Royal family.
  • You may not urinate or defecate in the park.
  • You may not barbecue or make an open fire.

The Paleistuin is managed by the Rijksvastgoedbedrijf (Central Government Real Estate Agency). This government agency works together with the municipality to take care of the park. They empty the rubbish bins everyday and maintain the greenery. The police and municipal enforcers check regularly to make sure the rules are being followed. The Marechaussee guards the palace but it also keeps an eye on the park.
