Help create a new artwork in the Molenvlietpark

During the construction of the Rotterdamsebaan many archaeological finds were discovered near the Molenvlietpark. They are the inspiration for a special artwork which will be unveiled in the Molenvlietpark at the end of 2024. Artist Michael Rakowitz invites city residents to create it together.

The English title of the artwork ‘Be Longing’ refers to feeling at home somewhere, to feeling homesick (for the old place) and the longing for a new home. Using shards of donated ceramics the artist will create giant replicas of the archaeological finds.

Come to 1 of the activities

The artist will talk about the artwork at various meetings in the city. Everybody can donate dinnerware toward the artwork. The artist would also like to hear the stories which belong to these ceramic pieces. All of these stories will then come together in 1 artwork. The artist will visit The Hague on Monday, 27 May and Tuesday, 28 May as well as during the period of Monday, 17 June to Thursday, 27 June. The locations will be announced later.

Exhibition

A presentation on the artwork can be seen in Lyceum Ypenburg until June. Students also created a piece for their schoolyard using the artwork as inspiration.

Dinners in the Molenvlietpark

Together with the Participatie Keuken the artist will organise 2 festive dinners in the Molenvlietpark on Saturday, 29 June and Sunday, 30 June from 15.30 to 18.00 hrs. Dancers will perform a traditional Indonesian plate dance. Bring your own story and piece of ceramic along for the artwork.
