BSN and registration for non-residents of the Netherlands (RNI)
You need a citizen service number (BSN) to arrange your government affairs. Will you be staying in the Netherlands for less than 4 months or do you live abroad? Read how you can apply for a BSN.

You do not live in the Netherlands or you will be staying in the Netherlands for less than 4 months.

You do not yet have a citizen service number (BSN).

You can only request a BSN for yourself. Or for your child (younger than 16 years).

Registering your child in the RNI
Would you like to register underage children (younger than 16 years) in the Non-residents Records Database (RNI)? Then also take the following documents with you:
- A passport or identity card for you and your child.
- An original birth certificate and the acknowledgement certificate for your child (if you have one). The certificate proves that you are the parent.
- Sometimes your document needs to be legalised (made official) or translated. You can look up country specific information on the Begin external link: website of the Government of the Netherlands(External link), end external link.. Choose the country which issued your document.
Your child must also attend the registration appointment.
Call the municipality on tel. 14070 to make an appointment. From abroad you can call tel. +31 70 353 30 00.
Opening hours
You can make an appointment on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8.30 to 16.30 hrs.
Make sure that you are on time for your appointment. If you come too late, the municipality may not be able to help you and you will have to make a new appointment.

The municipality will register you immediately in the RNI. And you will get your citizen service number (BSN) right away.
