At a city farm you can see everything that goes on at a farm. Everyone is welcome and there are all kinds of things to do there. The city farm is also a place where you can meet other people.
There are 10 city farms in The Hague. Stop by and see goats, sheep, rabbits and other farm animals.
City farms

De Woelige Stal city farm is located by the Wijkpark Transvaal. It was the first city farm in 1973.
What you can do there
- Help take care of the animals. For example, groom goats and clean pens.
- Help feed the animals at around 16.00 hrs.
- There is a playground for the children.
- There is a toy lending library.

You are allowed to feed the animals fruit and vegetables yourself. Do not give them bread, cooked food or rotten food.

Schildershoeve city farm is located in the middle of the Schilderswijk.
What you can do there
- Groom animals in the pasture.
- Rake and shovel poop.
- Read children’s books from the bookcase at the farm.
- Pet rabbits and guinea pigs in the cuddle corner. This is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11.00 to 11.30 hrs. and from 14.30 to 15.30 hrs.
- Help feed the animals at 15.30 hrs.

Op den Dijk city farm is an old farm located in a house built in the 16th century.
Op den Dijk city farm has a small playground. There is a cuddle corner where children are allowed to pet and cuddle rabbits and other small animals. The cuddle corner is open Tuesday to Sunday from 14.30 to 15.30 hrs.

De Herweijerhoeve is located at the edge of Zuiderpark.
What you can do there
There are many different animals at De Herweijerhoeve. Visitors are allowed to pet the various animals in the pens. The animal pasture and the rabbit hutch are open Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00 to 16.00 hrs. Children are allowed to pet the guinea pigs. A staff member will always supervise this.
Animals can be petted on:
- Wednesday from 14.00 to 15.00 hrs.
- Fridays from 11.00 to 12.00 hrs.

De Reigershof city farm was built in 1976. The name comes from the nearby Reigersbergen green space where the farm is located. There is a playground where children can learn about nature. the natural playground is suitable for all ages.
What you can do there
- A scavenger hunt for children

- Cuddle with guinea pig Tuesday to Sunday between 10.00 and 11.00 hrs. The guinea pigs will be safely lying in a basket.
- Go visit the big rabbits and the goats in the pasture. The goats are brought inside the stable at around 15.30 hrs. Before this time they love it when children come and groom them.
- Activities take place regularly, such as the annual sheep shearing festival.
- The animals are fed around 15.30 hrs. Would you like to help? Ask the manager. You can feed the animals fruit and vegetables (no bread).
You can buy animal feed at the city farm. The feed comes out of a dispenser. You can pay for it with € 0.50 coins. You can also buy honey, eggs and fresh goat milk there. This depends on the season.

The name Molenweide comes from the Molenwijk where the farm is located. This farm is a green place in the neighbourhood. A nice spot for the young and old to meet each other.
What you can do there
- Groom goats in the pasture.
- Feed animals with vegetables brought from home.
- Pet rabbits in the cuddle corner.
- Pet guinea pigs:
- Tuesday and Thursday from 10.00 to 11.00 hrs.
Wednesday and Friday from 15.00 to 16.00 hrs.
Saturday and Sunday from 14.00 to 15.00 hrs. - Read children’s books from the little library. You can also borrow the books.
- Help feed the animals at 16.00 hrs.

There is a nice spot for a cup of coffee or tea in part of the stable. Neighbourhood residents can come and meet each other.

This city farm has a garden where children can learn things and can play. For example, they can build huts using willow branches.
What you can do there
- Groom animals in the pasture.
- Rake and shovel poop.
- Read children’s books from the Kinderzwerfboek station (an old telephone booth with children’s books).
- Play on the natural playground. There is a sandbox, swing and barefoot path.
- Pet rabbits and guinea pigs during cuddle time. Children can hold the guinea pigs on their lap from 14.30 to 15.30 hrs. They are allowed to groom them with a special soft brush.
- Help feed and take care of the animals at 15.30 hrs.
You can buy fresh fruit and vegetables at the city farm as well as products from the beekeeper, such as honey.

This farm is located in the middle of the Nieuw Waldeck neighbourhood. There are activities organised at De Kakelhof for the young and old.
What you can do there
- There is a cuddle corner. Children can cuddle with the guinea pigs daily from 15.00 to 16.00 hrs.
- There are 2 big rabbits hopping around. Visitors can pet them the whole day if the rabbits allow it.

’t Waaygat city farm is located at a special spot in Scheveningen. Because in the olden days the Havenkade used to be a canal. Now you will find the city farm and school gardening complex.
What can you do there
- Play on the playground (for young and older children)
- Look at goats, sheep and cows in the pasture
- Help the farmer shovel poop
- Pet big rabbits in the rabbit hutch
- Cuddle with guinea pigs on Wednesday and Saturday from 11.00 to 11.30 hrs.)
- Children are always allowed to come and help when the farm is open. For example, with grooming or feeding the animals. The animals are usually fed around 15.30 hrs.

De Gagelhoeve is located in the Segbroek district. The farm has 2 animal pastures, a vegetable patch and an herb garden. There is also a natural green play area for the children.
What can you do there
- There is a cuddle corner where children can pet and cuddle with small animals. A parent or carer must accompany them. The cuddle corner is open daily from 10.00 to 16.00 hrs.
- There is a guinea pig cuddling time every day from 14.30 to 15.30 hrs.
- Groom goats
- Would you like to help out at the farm? Let one of the managers know. De Gagelhoeve has smaller wheelbarrows and brooms for children.
- You are allowed to help feed the animals starting at 15.30 hrs.
There are often fun things to do at the farm. For example, willow craft work, a sheep shearing festival and arts and crafts with natural materials.

Hours of operation
All the city farms are open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9.00 to 17.00 hrs.
The city farms are closed on:
- Monday
- King’s Day
- 23 December, 1st and 2nd Christmas Day and 30 December 2024
- New Year’s Day 2025
The city farms are open on Easter Monday and Whit Monday.
Sometimes a city farm will unexpectedly be closed during its hours of operation. You will find information about this on Facebook and X.

Bicycle repair kit (Kinderfietsenplan)
Does your child’s bike have a flat tire or a loose pedal or is the saddle too low? No problem. A special Kinderfietsenplan bicycle repair kit is available at all of the city farms. You can use the repair kit for free. Ask for it at the city farm and use only what you need. Internship
The Hague’s city farms are a Begin external link: recognised SBB training company(External link), end external link.. MBO students (Dierverzorging 3 en 4) and HBO students with a relevant course of study can do an internship at a city farm in The Hague.

For the environment
There is great awareness for the environment at the city farms.
- All of The Hague’s city farms generate electricity using solar panels.
- The Landzigt city farm has a small wind turbine which generates energy.
- Sustainable adaptations are being done in the buildings. Such as insulation and using rainwater to flush the toilets.
- Some farms organise clean-up campaigns where children help clean up litter in the neighbourhood. Sometimes the billy goat will join the campaign. You can find more information on X.
Recycling (reusing materials and things)
You can turn in the following materials at the city farms in The Hague:

- A bread bin can be found at some city farms. There you can dispose of your old bread.
The city farms receive money for the electrical appliances and used frying oil. The city farms use the proceeds to buy new materials and games. By disposing of them there you help the environment and the city farms.
