Apply for a permit or exemption for a holiday rental

Are you receiving guests from outside The Hague in your home? And will you get paid for this? Then this is considered a holiday rental. There are rules for this. You need a registration number and a permit or exemption.

There are different forms of holiday rentals for residential properties. Each form has its own conditions. 

Registration number required

You need a registration number for all forms of holiday rentals. You must state the registration number any time you offer the property in an advertisement or on a business card.

Did you have a 2nd home (pied-à-terre) or bed and breakfast before 2 August 2021?

You still need to apply for a registration number.

  1. Answer the questions below.
  2. You will see which form of holiday rental applies to you.
  3. Apply for your registration number and permit or exemption.

  • The permit for the holiday rental of a residential property costs € 124.05 (in 2024) or € 128.35 (in 2025). This permit is valid for 3 years.
  • The exemption for a pied-à-terre costs € 124.05 (in 2024) or € 128.35 (in 2025). The exemption is valid for the duration of your tenant’s rental contract.
  • You pay these costs for the processing of your application. If the municipality rejects your application, these fees will not be refunded.
  • The registration number, the registration of the rental and the number of nights are free of charge.

  • You will get the registration number immediately after you apply for it. 
  • Do the application and the property meet the conditions? Then you will get the permit or exemption within 8 weeks.

You may advertise as soon as you receive the registration number. You may rent out the property only once you have the permit or exemption.
