Renounce Dutch citizenship
Do you want to renounce your Dutch citizenship? Make an appointment to do this at the municipality. You will then sign a declaration of renunciation.
- You are registered in The Hague.
- You have citizenship (nationality) of the Netherlands plus the citizenship of another country.
- You are 16 years or older.
- Dutch passport and other identity documents. Take everything with you. Even if they are expired.
- Foreign passport or other foreign identity documents.

Contact the municipality by calling tel. 14070 or +31 70 353 30 00 from abroad.
The municipality will change your details immediately in the Personal Records Database (BRP).
Is your child younger than 18 years?
- Your child will automatically lose their Dutch citizenship if both of the parents are not Dutch.
- Children between the ages of 12 and 16 years are allowed to give their opinion.
