Donate your used children’s bikes

The municipality will be collecting used children’s bicycles from 13 May to 1 July 2024. The bicycles will be fixed up and handed out to children in The Hague who are unable to buy a bicycle. Do you have a bicycle you are not using? Bring the bike to 1 of the 13 collection points in the city.

The municipality wants every child in The Hague to have a bicycle. Together with Stichting Leren Doen, its partners and the ANWB, the municipality collects some 2,000 secondhand children’s bikes each year.

How does it work?

You bring your bicycle to a collection point. These are located at a number of city farms, waste depots, Stichting Leren Doen and the ANWB headquarters. The municipality is looking for bicycles for children aged 8 to 12 years. Look at the collection points at Begin external link: denhaagfietst.nl/kinderfietsen(External link), end external link..

Apply for bike via Leergeld Den Haag

The restored children’s bikes reach the children through partners such as primary schools. Children with an Ooievaarspas can apply for a bike through Stichting Leergeld Den Haag. This costs € 7.50. They will then get a bicycle and a booklet (fietspaspoort). The booklet entitles the children to 3 years of repairs at 1 of the service points. They can also trade their bicycle for a larger model.

The restored children’s bicycles find a new owner through the city’s primary schools.
